DRESS CODE & REQUIREMENTS

PURPOSE FOR THE UNIFORM

CCA appreciates the conscious effort of parents in keeping the dress code from       becoming a major issue. CCA acknowledges that the dress code is institutional preference; however, it is not optional. Students are expected to abide by the code and parents are expected to monitor compliance before their children leave the house. It is inappropriate that other students, teachers or principals be detracted from the educational process because someone failed to fulfill hiscommitment to follow the dress code. Commitment to the dress code is implied when registering your children at CCA and by signing the Parent-School Covenant that is required for registration. Final resolution of any disagreements regarding what is or is not appropriate according to the dress code rests with the CCA administration.  Students who arrive at school dressed inappropriately may not be permitted to attend class until they change clothes. This may require parents to bring a change of clothes to school. The school uniform must be worn each day   unless otherwise stated.

**Due to the problem of students not wearing proper dress code pants/shorts/skorts, beginning in the 2012-2013 school year, students will be required to purchase their uniform bottoms through our uniform supplier. No other pants/shorts/skorts will be acceptable beginning August 2012. **

SCHOOL SPONSORED FIELD TRIP DRESS

Unless otherwise notified, students are expected to wear school uniforms on field trips.

SPECIAL DRESS STANDARDS

Special standards will be made available by the administration as warranted for events such as school sponsored formals, athletic events, picture days and special activities.

SCHOOL PICTURE DAY DRESS STANDARDS

Special standards will be made available for school picture days. Students will be allowed to “dress-up” not “down” on individual picture days. Any clothing worn other than school uniform should reflect the standards of the normal dress code (business casual) or higher. On class picture days, if a student is also taking individual pictures, they are to bring their school uniform to school and change into school uniform prior to the class picture. This is to ensure a uniform look in class pictures.

 PHYSICAL EDUCATION UNIFORM DRESS

Because of time restraints and difficulty in changing, K-5th grade students wear regular school uniforms for physical education classes. They should remember to wear tennis shoes on P.E. days. Girls may remove their skirts and wear shorts no shorter than fingertip length.

Sixth-12th grade students must change into P.E. uniforms purchased through the uniform company. We recommend students order/purchase shorts and shirts one size larger than they would normally wear, so that the length is not a problem. Jogging outfits will be allowed during cold days. Students will not be permitted to be late for class after P.E. for changing purposes. After the completion of PE classes, 6-12th grade students are to change back into their school uniform.

APPEARANCE STANDARDS – GENERAL

Girls - Girls may wear light or moderate make-up and soft tone nail polish (no neon, sparkles or dark colors permitted). Girls may wear modest jewelry. Earrings are limited to no more than two earrings on each ear.

Boys – Earrings are not permitted. No long necklaces or chains are to be worn outside the school shirt.

Girls and Boys – Body piercings are not allowed. Hats with the school logo may be worn and sunglasses may only be worn during recess, PE and after school.

DRESS CODE VIOLATIONS

Students in grades 6-12 who are in violation of the School Dress Code will receive appropriate disciplinary consequences (please see “Guidelines for Discipline Problems” chart).  Dress code violations in the elementary will be administered by the class teacher and the administrator with communication to the parents.

SUMMARY

Note to Parents:

We must have the alert help of parents to keep dress code from becoming a “major” issue at CCA. Even though we readily acknowledge that much of the dress code is mere institutional preference, it is not optional. Students are expected to abide by the code and parents are expected to monitor compliance before their children leave the house. We desire that enforcement begin and end at home. We are not here to be “clothes police.” It is inappropriate that other students, teachers or principals be distracted from the educational process because someone failed to fulfill his or her commitment to follow the code. Final resolution of any disagreements regarding what is or is not appropriate according to the code rests with the school. The intent of the standard is to present a school business atmosphere. For this reason, students are not allowed to change to/from school uniform immediately before/after school. The standards are not meant to be divisive or to dictate pseudo-righteousness. The school does not impose dress standards for students outside of school; rather the school recognizes parental authority and depends on parents to support the dress code by checking their children before school each day.
